In Karen's first class she brings us her stunning Guardian Angel Hammered Cuff. Riveting and soldering are two of the most current techniques in jewelry and in this workshop Karen will introduce you to both. As well, Karen is generously sharing her riveting tool for those of you who don't yet have one. But beware... once you learn how fun and easy rivets are, you'll be hooked! Because of the beveled glass it was hard to get a photo that shows the true beauty of this piece, so the next time your in the shop be sure and take a look at this, you won't be disappointed. All materials are supplied, but feel free to bring an image of your own if you like to personalize your cuff.

Bohemian Chic Bracelet

We'd like to welcome artist Robin Dudley-Howes back to Gilding the Lily with her all new Bohemian Chic Bracelet. Robin has some new techniques up her sleeve and she would love to share them with all of you. In this workshop you will explore new soldering techniques creating an overlay of metal layers, and emboss metal without chemicals but rather a using a press and emboss plate. You will also learn transfer techniques, methods to color resin flowers, along with simple wire wrapping to tie all of the elements together creating this beautiful bracelet. Robin will generously supply all materials and all skill levels are welcome.

Father Christmas

We are so happy to have doll artist Colleen Moody teaching our Big Christmas 2012 project this year! Colleen graciously brings us her original, home-spun Father Christmas featuring hand sculpted paper-clay face, and clothing made with fabrics from Colleen's private collection. This is a full day project in which Colleen will walk you through her methods in sculpture. As your pieces are drying, Colleen will teach you to fit, cut, and sew Father Christmas' outfit using a doll Colleen has personally sculpted for each of you. In other words, you'll be able to recreate a complete second Santa at home after the class, making this workshop a real value! This shelf sitting doll is approx 18 inches tall. Space is limited and seats always fill fast for Colleen's classes, so please call to reserve your seat early!

Art Clay Silver Ring

We are thrilled to have artist Cindy Gonzales with us again teaching another fabulous Art Clay Silver project. These classes are wildly popular, and Cindy doesn't hold back any information in this highly informative study in silver clay. In this workshop Cindy will teach you to create on one of two fine silver rings. As you build your ring you will learn to sculpt, mold, and attach dimensional clay elements, create slip and more. Please bring a sack lunch with you on class day, and have your ring size available.

Have you collected new and vintage jewelry bits in hopes of creating your own one-of-a-kind jewelry? For years I've done the same thing; I've collected from Gilding the Lily, flea markets, thrift stores and beyond. I hope you'll gather your treasures
and join me for an action-packed, full-day workshop. Lets turn all of your favorite things into something you'll be proud to wear. In this class you'll not only learn the basics of jewelry making, you'll also learn how quick and easy it is to wire-wrap, drill, hammer, patina, string beads, etch metal, and solder your own chain! I'll also bring everything you need to create etched bezels as well. These techniques are easy to do and take nothing more than practice to master. I'll bring my jewelry pliers, Dremel, etching materials, soldering supplies, wire and beading supplies, and you'll each walk away with as many pieces as you're able to create in our time together!

Jewelry Basics and Beyond: Exploring the Wonders of Resin

In this second in our series of Jewelry Basics and Beyond workshops
, Dede Warren will guide you as we explore all the ways in which to incorporate resin into your creative work, be it mixed media or jewelry making. Dede will teach you how to treat paper to achieve several different effects in making resin paper. We will explore mold making, pour resin to create dimensional pieces, and apply several methods for coloring our pieces. We will pour bezels, and much more. All of these applications can be used either in your art or jewelry pieces. Be prepared for lots of creative play, and keep in mind we may get a little sticky at times! No experience is necessary, and Dede will generously supply most materials, as well as the resin.

Book of Secrets: a Pendant in Art Clay Silver

Come learn the fundamentals of Art Clay Silver with local artist Cindy Gonzales in this beginner to intermediate class. Art clay silver produces fine silver once it is fired, as it is more pure than sterling, at 99.9 % silver. Cindy has created these delightful, hand-bound book as the signature piece to this class. As you create your own book pendant, Cindy will teach you how to make one-of-a-kind molds, how to work with syringe and paste silver clay, how to fire and finish your pieces, as well as how to achieve various colors of patina using liver of sulfur. You may choose to create the Book of Secrets pendant, or several charms in this fun, informative class.

Artfully Beaded Bezel

We are happy to welcome back mixed-media artist Susan Bates-Bezek to teach her beautiful Artfully Beaded Bezel. After molding a custom cabochon to house your special artwork, Susan will teach you to bead a bezel around it creating this unique pendant. You will learn to use basic beading materials, and the techniques needed to finish your pendant. A bail can be added to your pendant to hang from an existing necklace, chain, or sting of beads. Time permitting Susan will demo the beaded chain work, to be finished at home.
All skill levels welcome.

size 11 seed beads, size 15 seed beads (contrasting color, just a small amount)

Treasures From the Shore

Join Fullerton artist Judy Mackey as she teaches her stunning Treasures From the Shore necklace.
Just back from the east coast where six of Judy's pieces took awards in the Sanibel Shell Fair, and the Martha Stewart Show featured her work, Judy is graciously offering this beautiful necklace workshop. Using vintage, natural and hand-dyed shells Judy will teach you to create a variety of shell flowers in a color pallet of your choosing. After creating your vast garden from shells, Judy will walk you step-by-step in completing the centerpiece of your necklace. You will finish by stringing pearls together to create the chain work.
As always, most materials are supplied and all skill levels are welcome.



Supply List:
Fine point tweezers, wire cutters, beading mat, small pearls (Miriam Haskell pearls were used in these designs and are available at Gilding the Lily), 1 or 2 focal pieces made of rhinestone, or pearls... whatever you like. This could be an old brooch or broken earring.

Exploration in Precious Metal Clay

Join resident artist Cindy Gonzales as she takes you through an exploration of PMC, otherwise known as Precious Metal Clay. Once fired PMC contains
99.9% pure silver and is also known as fine silver, being more pure than even sterling silver. Cindy will share with you her techniques in handling, rolling, shaping, adding texture and molding 20grams of PMC into one of two projects. You can choose to create up to 4 different charms or one stunning ring. Cindy will have various molds and stamps for you to choose from, so be prepared to dive into this fun medium as you learn all you can do in this Exploration in PMC workshop.

Wrapture Workshop

Join artist Riki Schumacher in this fun and relaxing workshop, designed for every level. These sweet, wrapped necklaces were just published in an article Riki wrote for Stampington's Jewelry Affaire magazine. You will be designing your piece with vintage found objects, lace and silk. Riki will show you how to wind and weave all kinds of glass pearls, watch faces, old buttons and tons of other found objects, into this lovely design. You can incorporate any number of found objects you bring. Gather up one or more focal pieces, like old rhinestone earrings or brooches to use as the center focal. Or how about a rusty found object if you so prefer? Riki will supply some fun vintage laces, fabrics, and silks for you to add to your bejeweled wrap, giving it luscious texture, and an elegant, romantic feel. The cord comes in a wide variety of colors, so you can plan a color scheme if you like. Make this design as elaborate as you want, they are so much fun to design!

Birds In Flight Pendant

Join artist Riki Schumacher as she comes to Gilding the Lily teaching one of her favorite pieces to create! With an adventuresome variety of materials, you will build layer upon layer of objects and texture to create a stunning focal piece. You will begin by working with sheet metal, cutting out the perfect size and shape. Then with lots of overseeing and instruction, you will use a torch to flood solder onto your metal. You will attach a bezel, which will encase prepared paper, like a picture, poem, or word, behind a beautiful frame, finishing off the top layer. This gives the piece a wonderful "shadow box" feel, encasing a beautiful thought or art. You will drill, add eyelets, and wire as you make the birdies sing with delight! Bring an egg for the bird nest on the twig (like a pearl), as well as chain and a clasp to finish a stunning necklace. You will love the engineering Riki has in store for you in this jam packed class!

Oregon artist Lonnie Jenck is offering her Happiness of Home torch soldered pendant as a way of learning to solder using a cooking torch. This is a wildly popular method of soldering and in many ways is much easier to use then a soldering iron. Lonnie has put together this charming house pendants featuring a front door and four pane window which hangs sweetly under it's own rhinestone embellished house number. Lonnie will provide all materials for the pendant, as well as the soldering tools used to put this piece together.
