Dede Warren, Instructor

Class Fee: $85.00

Have you wanted to learn to solder but perhaps been afraid of the tools involved? No doubt a torch with a flame reaching 12 inches can be intimidating, as well as learning to create with a tool that reaches temperatures of 900 degrees. There's a lot to learn to safely use these tools, but once you have the information I think you'll be surprised as how easy it really is. Local Artist Dede Warren will share her knowledge of soldering on a variety of mediums. This workshop will give you knowledge of what you can and cannot solder, the tools and supplies involved and how to use them, and a variety of ways in which to use this skill.

Our focus in this hands on workshop will be learning the basics of soldering with a soldering iron as well as using a small household torch. Dede will supply the materials to create several soldered charms along with using a variety of patinas. This class is rich in soldering techniques, and our focus will be on learning the art of soldering.

Leslie Marsh, Instructor
Saturday, February 21, 9:00a - 5:00p
& Sunday, February 22, 11-3:00p
Class Fee: $245.00, everything included

With a strong focus on nature and vintage material. Leslie Marsh combines surprising elements into one-of-a-kind books that can sit on your coffee table or hang from your neck. Over this two-day workshop, Leslie will show you how to solder and embellish covers for your own book. At the same time, you will learn how to to coax beautiful prints onto paper using leaves, heat and water. Eco-dyeing is a process she learned from Australian textile artist India Flint. While we will be dyeing paper during the workshop, Leslie will talk about how the same process can be applied to dyeing fabric. Finally, she will show participants how to bind it all together into a treasured book using Coptic binding - a technique that has been used since the second century. This approach is relatively easy to learn and allows your pages to lay flat, making it easier to fill them after you’ve bound the book. The skills (and handouts) you leave this technique-filled workshop with will arm you to make books of all sizes.
