"Pipe Dreams" Copper Jewelry with Sid Hanner

Copper Pipe and Wire Jewelry Workshop

Students learn two different wired chain techniques, a roll hook clasp, wire-wrapped pearl chain technique, pipe cutting, as well as eliminating burrs and finishing techniques, drilling, torch patina, making small copper beads, ball tip headpin construction and forming earwires from copper wire.

Students’ list (highly recommended):
• Small hand held butane torch, available from Harbor Freight. Cost: approximately $10. Please pre-fill.
• Center punch with a sharp point, available from Sears. Cost: approximately $5.00
• Pipe cutter, available from Harbor Freight. Cost: approximately $5.00 (Taiwan) or Pipe cutter, available from Lowes. Cost: approximately $10.00 (USA)
• Drill, electric, hand-held or Dremel, and 1/16 drill bits (borrow hubbies if you don't have one!)
• Bench block and a hammer
• Copper wire: 20 ga. for chain couple of feet, 26 ga.
For the necklace:
• Pearls, small; approximately 12; large pearls, approximately 5, plus 2 tiny rice pearls or beads
• Filigree element in necklace (optional) or your choice
• Approximatley 5" small gauge chain of your choice
• 5 large pearls, 4 small pearls
• Small round or "rat tail" file

Kit includes full color instruction booklet, birch wood dowel, leather saddle and spacer; 6 inches 1/2” copper pipe (plenty for additional projects), 6 inches 1/4” copper pipe (plenty of extra pipe), fine grit sand paper, 11 tiny copper cup beads for necklace and earrings. Instructor will bring two hand-held torches, one large propane tank for making head pins from copper wire, three bench blocks, a clap to hold pipe for drilling (one for each student), and polish for copper to hold patina.

A wee antique Frozen Charlotte is so pretty and delicately sweet. Add a vintage style jar, a bit of paint, wire and vintage paper and you have a divine little flower holder ideal for a sprig of blossoms guaranteed to brighten your day. Join Somerset Artist and writer Kristen Robinson as she walks you through the creation of Charlotte’s House, a truly divine project that can be hung on a door to welcome all or stand freely as it is. Kristen will provide an array of paint colors to choose from. All supplies for the project are included in the class fee and kit.


Please bring the following:
Scissors • Paper Adhesive • Needle and White Thread • Paint Brushes – Detail Brush and a Small Shading Brush (suitable for acrylics) • Small Cup for Water to rinse your brushes • Pencil

Optional:
Watercolor Crayons / Water Color Pencils

Capture the allure of the 1940s screen goddesses with this elegant and sophisticated silk and velvet millinery flower. Artist and designer Arlene Baker has created this beautiful and nostalgic tribute to the actresses of the era, and now you can create your own!

Your Kit will include:
• silk velvet with plush nap (select the color of your choice from samples in store; Arlene will bring coordinating organza, and velvet for the leaves and stem)
• sewing thread to match velvet
• stamens
• 34 gauge beading wire
• embroidery floss
• 3 pieces 26 gauge stem wire, 18” cloth covered
• 1 piece 22 gauge stem wire, 18” cloth covered
• 1 yard yarn
• 1 each, pin back clasp, 1-1/4”, optional
• Aleene’s Tacky glue or similar
• 3 sheets tracing paper or plain bond paper

Arlene will also be bringing some of her fabulous vintage flowers to illustrate her inspiration for this project, and perhaps will share some of her other work with us as well. Be prepared to be inspired by this lovely and talented lady, who is also a published author, and renowned collector.

Vintage pin up girls, girly baton twirlers, and burlesque queens are the inspirations for these tiny top hats designed by Christine Rose Elle. Make your very own chapeau complete with ribbons and all the trimmings! Liberté, égalité, fraternité! Ooohh la la!
